On Monday, April 16, 2018, at 10 am in Ljubljana, a protest march will be held, expressing disapproval of the announced changes to the Act on Contagious Diseases.
The bill on Amendments to the Act on Contagious Diseases is in contradiction with the fundamental values of the democratic and the legal state, because the adoption was sent by urgent procedure, without public debate. The proposed amendment to the law is hardly embarrassing to fundamental human rights because unvaccinated and partly vaccinated children are prevented from enrolling in public and private kindergartens with a publicly funded program and even enrolling in some schools and faculties.
The proposal also severely affects the sensitive area of children health, as parents are deprived of the ability to influence on the decision of vaccination, despite justified reasons for the vaccination exemption. Amendments to the law would have put an end to the possibility of the parents submitting an application for exemptions from vaccination, even in case of severe vaccine reactions and other statutory reasons (illness or allergy to the vaccine ingredients).
